Get ready to take an icy plunge for a great cause! The Pelham Police Department invites the community to participate in the 2026 Pelham Polar Plunge on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Oak Mountain State Park beach (Double Oak Lake).
Each year, hundreds of residents and law enforcement officers brave the cold waters of Double Oak Lake to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Alabama. Whether you’re plunging into the water or cheering from the shore, this high-energy event is a fun way to support athletes with intellectual disabilities while enjoying a day of community spirit.
The Pelham Polar Plunge is an annual Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run event hosted by the Pelham Police Department. For more than 50 years, Special Olympics has been breaking down barriers and creating opportunities through the power of sport. Since 1981, the Law Enforcement Torch Run has grown into a global movement, with law enforcement agencies raising over $1 billion in support of Special Olympics athletes worldwide.
Community members of all ages are encouraged to get involved, form a team, or support a participant.
