The City of Pelham is currently accepting applications for the position of Magistrate in the Municipal Court. The person must be able to maintain confidentiality and multi-task in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment. Other duties include, but are not limited to, processing new cases and data entry, preparing court dockets to include communicating with various agencies and issuing subpoenas for witnesses, attending court five (5) nights per month, issuing warrants after taking depositions and determining probable cause, administering domestic violence and initial appearance hearings with inmates, answering phone calls and assisting the public with various needs, balancing daily cash receipts, and completing other duties as required for the Municipal Court.
Applicants with certification as a Magistrate are preferred, but not required. Speaking a foreign language is helpful, but not required. Each applicant must be a registered voter. Applicants must also satisfactorily pass a background investigation and pre-employment drug screen.
The starting salary range is between $31,059.00 to $43,684.61, depending on certification, training, and/or experience.
