PELHAM, Alabama --- The Pelham Racquet Club was recently honored as the 2021 Shelby County Tourism & Recreation All Star Attraction of the Year by the Shelby County Chamber. The award was presented at the Shelby Chamber’s Connections luncheon on October 7, 2021. Pelham Racquet Club was recognized along with the Shelby County Arts Council as Attraction of the Year. Other nominees in the categories of lodging, restaurants and rising stars were also honored.
Each nominee was reviewed by an independent panel and evaluated on information based on criteria by the Chamber’s Tourism & Recreation Group. This included: Social media engagement, community engagement, customer service ratings, efforts to attract tourists and visitors to Shelby County and involvement with any host organization.
The Pelham Racquet Club is a public tennis facility consisting of 20 clay courts and 5 hard courts, all lighted with above tournament grade lighting. The entire facility is beautifully landscaped on three tiers providing function and visibility to all courts. The Pelham Racquet Club opened in 2001, and is celebrating its 20th year in operation.
The facility hosts approximately 15 tournaments a year, including the USTA Legacy Pro Classic. Additional activities include year-round league play and socials. Racquet services and a complete pro shop are also available.
The club is maintained by the City of Pelham.
Pelham Racquet Club Director Chaney Mills said, “This award is such an honor. I think it speaks to the support we receive from the City of Pelham and Shelby County to maintain a first-class facility.” Mills went on to say the Pelham Racquet Club is slated to host a large national tournament next year. “We were chosen because of the quality and knowledge of our staff and the fact that we’re a well-maintained facility. This award embodies all of that hard work.”
